Young stars make England's Euro 2012 squad

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck included in 23-man party for European Championship

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for this summer's European Championship

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck are among the talented Barclays Premier League youngsters named in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2012.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made an instant impact at the Emirates after joining the Gunners from Southampton last summer, impressing with a series of sparkling performances and scoring two goals in six League starts.
The 18-year-old, who has represented England at U-18, U-19 and U-21 levels, is one of two uncapped players included in the squad, the other being Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy.
"I am so excited about this that I will try and take any opportunity with both hands"

"He is a very, very exciting player," said Hodgson. "He's given one or two performances that have made quite an impression on me."
Oxlade-Chamberlain said he is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

"I'm obviously delighted, to be picked for your country at any stage is a massive honour and to be at a huge tournament likes the Euros is such a bonus," he told Arsenal's official website.
"I am just looking forward to going there, learning from all the experienced players, training with them and trying my hand at everything. I am absolutely buzzing.
"I think I play with no fear, I run at players regardless of who they are and try to make a difference. I have a youthful enthusiasm and I am so excited about this that I will try and take any opportunity with both hands."#

Four strikers

Welbeck also makes the 23-man squad for the competition in Poland and Ukraine as one of four strikers.
The 21-year-old has this year formed an impressive partnership with Wayne Rooney at United and has scored seven goals in 30 appearances.
"He's a different type of player, has the ability to hold the ball up"
- Hodgson on Carroll
Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is rewarded for an eye-catching end to the season by also securing a place in the squad alongside club team-mates Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson and Stewart Downing.
Hodgson said of Carroll: "He's a different type of player, he has the ability to hold the ball up.
"I spoke to Kenny [Dalglish] at some length about him. Kenny was convinced about his personality and his seriousness as a professional."
Gerrard has been appointed England captain for the tournament.
Newly-crowned Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City supply four players to the squad, goalkeeper Joe Hart, defender Joleon Lescott and midfielders Gareth Barry and James Milner.
Some of the notable absentees from the party are Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, Micah Richards of Manchester City and Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge.
Sturridge is, however, named with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Adam Johnson on the stand-by list.
England warm-up for Euro 2012 with matches against Norway on May 26th and Belgium on June 2nd. The squad’s first fixture of the tournament is against France in Donetsk on June 11th.
